When I was younger I would always envy girls who could wear ball caps and look good with them on. Lately I've been over and tired of my hair so I decided to try something different. I'm liking the red one!!!
Your economy is bad when:
- You shed a tear when gas prices are less than $2.50.
- Every other person you know has either recently had lay-offs, in fear of being laid-off, or has been laid-off.
- 5:00 traffic is light...huh??
- Blockbuster's older released movies are 99 cents.
- Your average Caribbean can only find 2, as opposed to 5, jobs.
- Prostitutes are putting in day shifts.
- There are no long waits, during peak hours, at restaurants. The State Of Our Economy....sigh....
I know the state of our economy is in so much turmoil, where's the light...?? It's hella scary!!Your economy is bad when:

My Fat Smash Detox Experience...
Some time ago, while reading Coop's Blog, she had mentioned the Fat Smash Diet. Me, the diet queen, had to find out what this diet entailed. After reading online reviews and purchasing the book I tried out the Detox Phase, which was 9 days.1) Banana Oatmeal - 1Cp Soymilk, 1/2Cp Oatmeal, tsp Stevia, tsp Allspice, 1/2 Banana - Tastes like Banana Bread. Using a tsp of regular sugar would make these even more amazing!!!
2) Mini Apple Pie - A disaster... I tried to make my own crust with banana, oatmeal and brown rice. The apple topping was just apples, spices and water...YUCK!!! Such a bad experiment.
3) Tofu Scramble w/ Grits
4) Asparagus & Tofu Stir-Fry
5) Spinach Salad with Falafels
6) Tofu, Asparagus, Spinach, Black Beans, Brown Rice & Plantains
I did lose 3 lbs in nine days!!! WOOHOO!! There was no point for me to move on to Phase II since it introduced lean meats & coffee...So when my eating gets out of line I'll go back to eating Phase I style.
Enjoy Your Week!!!

You look nice in caps. Your hair is so thick!
Maybe I should get back on the ball with Smash. I totally fell off the bandwagon...as if you couldn't tell by the dozens of cookies I'd baked. But the stress of school has made me lose weight despite my bad eating habits.
Did you use regular, unsweetened or vanilla soy milk for the oatmeal? looks deelish!
i used to wear hats all the time when i had my micros...i can't wait to get enough hair to wear a hat and look like a girl haha
Coop> Thanks!!!! Those cookies looked so good! I was Smashing the day I saw them on your blog and was so tempted to make some. Isn't it awesome when you lose weight without trying! Great Job!!
I used plain soymilk, it also works well with light plain soymilk.
Au Naturale> I think you'd look perfect in a hat now! I thought I looked like a little boy until my bf told me differently....LOL!!!
Hey Girl
I know it's been a minute, although I'm exhausted I just had to leave a comment.
So much to say...You know I like to leave long posts so here is a fair warning, lol.
First off I think you look great in caps, I always envy those people who can wear caps, because I love the style, but my head is way too big so I guess I can envy you now, lol. You wear them well!
As for the weight loss, Congrats! I tried the fat smash diet twice, I can never get past phase two, or I always think I can repeat phase one and lose more weight but I always quit before I do, the first time I lost 6 pounds and the second 5. I think the diet actually works when you stick to it!
As always your food looks delicious! You sure you don't want to get in the food industry( being your own boss of course)? Anyhow I'm coming up that way this weekend and would love to meet you but I don't think that would be appropriate being that it's a family outing. One day....
Last but not least.
You know the economy is bad when...
-You start dipping into your kids penny bank just to have some extra change
-you start cutting coupons to save money or when you go shopping you only buy stuff that's buy one get one free
-you try to have a garage sell with no garage( I actually do have one but I thought it was funny)
-you think about being a stripper on the side to make some extra cash, (I'm just joking, Lord knows I don't have the body or the mind set to do that)just a thought
Okay I have typed more than enough as always, take care. Good to hear from you and your locks look great!
The caps really suit you. I'm impressed that you could fit all of your locks inside :-). The red one really does look great!
Brown> We'll have to link up the next time I'm in South Florida. We definitely need to meet!
I have a big head too...I was unable to fit in the cutesy women hats. The adjustable men ones worked though...
I love cooking and baking but don't know if I'm ready to do it professionally. I would like to go to a vegan culinary school though..
I was impressed that I finished Phase I and didn't feel deprived. I'm sure I'll be doing it after the Holidays.
Taking the money out of the kids penny banks was priceless!! LOL!!!
Mel> Thanks! It wasn't easy, I had to push some through the back and leave the rest out. I also could only fit in the men hats.
The caps look cute on you. I just bought a hat at TJ Maxx cloak style I think thats what they are called. Now I have a small head but when I put the hat on I had to press hard. I guess having locks you have to buy a bigger size hat. (lol). I'm 1 year sisterlocked. Still not completely locked.
Economy so bad you have to ask the guy holding the sign I'll work for food to move over so you can hold up your sign. (lol)
Food loves delious as always.
Wow! The economy is bad.
1. Your hair has grown in like 2 weeks.
2. You have the face for caps, not everyone does.
3. YAY on the detox, and the food looks yummers as always.
Gosh your hair is beauuutiful!
....and don't even get me started on that food, sis. LOL!
RMC> Happy Lockversary!!!! Don't worry, your locks will be locked in no time! You don't want to know how many times I've wanted to speak my mind to the people holding those signs...LOL!!
Sophia & B> Thanks!!! Trying to figure out recipes that were Smash-friendly was so much fun!!
Your locks are nice and thick! :)
I make my own caps/hats for my hair, but I'm on crochet hiatus for a while..
You know the economy is bad, when:
you have no $$$ to develop film, let alone get a digital camera to show fans/groupies/hair-stalkers/online buddies your hair updates!
You haven't been to a mall this year!
Besides shake-dancing, you've considered joining the military, yet like dancing, you don't have the mind-set~
Hmmm, I'm gonna post the rest to my blog now!
Take Care~
That's a whole lot of HAIR!!! I want your head lol you look great in both hats, I love hats!! That's one of the things I miss about my weaves and wigs, my new era baseball caps look nice with my Hawaiian silky!! My mom lost the one hat that I was able to wear with my locks and I haven't been able to find any.
looking at your food pictures made me realize that I cooked again. My pictures don't look as good as yours do.
I don't have any of my own but I love the drop a tear at gas going below 2.50, the other day I filled my tank for 18.99 at Costco and I swear I just about called everyone in my phonebook to share the news.
Congrats on the 3lbs in nine days!!! -woot woot-
Hey Meika.... girl work them hats! You oknow the first pic I looked at was the Apple pie and then you tell me it wasn't good? How rude! LOL.
On another note... I'm all over the Caribbean one! I left Philly with 4 jobs in tow and reach Orlando and can't find one! Is what kind of fool-fool something that! Lawd have mercy!
I like the economy list. Grinning hard.
u look good in caps and the food u know, glad to see u blogging on the reg again, gonna put u back on my roll so i can check up on the food, i mean u lol
QueenLi> I saw your post!!! It was hilarious!!!
Diva> Your locks are pretty thick as well. The trick to wearing the baseball caps is pushing some of your hair out the opening in the back..
I love looking at food pics!! Post them please!! You just made me realize I need to make the mushroom rice again...YUM!! I can't believe gas is $1.88 where I am...WOOHOO!!!!
MsNana> That apple pie was something awful!! Girl, I wouldn't wish that horrid mess on you.. Now that I'm no longer Smashing the next Apple Pie pick will look better and taste better...LOL!!!
I feel you on the job front...sigh...I'm still praying for you to find a job soon...
Carmen> Me too!!! The additions everyone has included in the comments is great too!!
Torrance> You're Funny!!!! Thanks for stopping by!
Mmm mmm your recipes always make me feel hungry. I love the cap look on you too. I'd love to try to make my own falafel if you'll give me a recipe.
Am feeling the red cap. It suits you. What way yu hair a grow!
I find that I'm turned on to tams now. Do you have any?
You need to open a restaurant or do something entrepreneurial with those culinary skills of yours. :)
Amba> I'll leave the recipe in your comments. Thanks! Let me know how it turns out!
N'Drea> I don't own a tam:( I've tried crocheting my own but they never turn out right....
Opening a restaurant sounds awesome! I would like to work in one first though..
Hi there Meikmeika,
I always enjoy reading your posts. I like that you are bit more regular than I am and it definety offers encouragement. As usual you have the bomb receipes and pictures that makes mouths water. I just wanted to stop by, the locs are looking gorgegous and I wish you well.
Hey Meika,
do you have a recipe for veg cornbread? I tried the one in The Joy of Vegan Baking, but me no likey. :-( It's more like a white cake with corn. I'm looking for something a little more...um...Southern!
Yeah, I like the red one too. Very cute!
Eyedinity> Thank you for stopping by. I'm definitely looking forward to an update on your blog...how's your locks doing?
Coop> Let me check for some recipes. I'm sure you were probably looking for one for yesterday, so I'm probably late....You looking for sweet or salty or let me know the one you ended up choosing?
Aya> Thanks!!!!
